This Cypriot style squeaky cheese is lightly salted and perfect for frying and grilling.
Halloumi originated sometime between AD 395 – 1191 in the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.
It is an unripened, brined cheese with a slightly chewy texture, traditionally made with sheep and/or goat milk. Halloumi does not melt when heated & therefore is an ideal cheese for grilling or frying.
ELEF Halloumi is lightly salted & made with farm fresh, indigenous cow milk. High in protein, calcium & low in lactose, this versatile cheese tastes fantastic in sandwiches, burgers & salads.
Pairing Suggestion:
- Serve it with a dry white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or a Chenin Blanc.
- It’s brilliant in salads, wraps or served grilled with some hot honey and toasted sesame.
