Brunost earned a Super Gold at the prestigious World Cheese Awards (WCA) in 2023 held in Norway, securing a place as one of the top 5 best cheeses in the world. This humble brown cheese also made history by becoming the first-ever Indian cheese to win a Silver on the world stage at the WCA in 2021.
Originating in Norway, Brunost, or brown cheese, is created by heating leftover cheesemaking whey until the milk sugars caramelize and the whey reaches a fudge-like consistency. Traditionally enjoyed at breakfast, this cheese pairs best with waffles, pancakes, or toast, served with berry jam or fresh berries. Brunost also makes for a fantastic addition to your cheese boards and platters!
Believe it or not, the texture of brown cheese is reminiscent of the ubiquitous Indian milk sweet ‘Peda.’ Just as artisans do with ‘Peda,’ we emboss our Brunost with the initials of our company name in Indian Devanagari script – ‘एल एफ’ – to make it uniquely our own.
Pairing Suggestion:
- Pair it with a medium-bodied white wine or a fruity red wine.
- Brunost pairs beautifully with berry jam on toasted bread, waffles, pancakes and cheesecakes.
